Tena Koutou Katoa,

We have had a great start to Term 2. Thank you to all the Parents/ Caregivers who attended the interviews. If you couldn’t make the interview you can still have one by contacting the Office to arrange another time. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you parents/grandparents/whanau for taking the time to read with your children. To our volunteer parents who come in and help where they can, a big thank you to you all.

This Thursday the 23rd of May at 10.00am we will open our three new additions to our playground in the form of ‘swings’. This playground equipment was made possible by the generous donations of the Lottery Grants Board and Onekainga Heights, Moureeses Bay and PTA. You are most welcome to come down.

Board of Trustees

Elections

A reminder that nomination forms for the Board of Trustee elections need to be back to the office by noon Friday, May 24th. Please make sure the nomination forms are filled in correctly, otherwise, they will be invalid.

Strike

We have been informed by NZEI the National Union of Primary School Teachers that the mega teacher strike is confirmed. This means both primary and secondary teachers across the country will be on strike. They will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on Wednesday 29th May across New Zealand.

The Board of Trustees have investigated our options and have decided to close the School on this day as we will not have enough staff available to care for our students. We understand that this may be inconvenient for some of our community but the health and safety of our children are of our utmost concern.

If there are any changes we will notify everyone via school communications.

Meningococcal W

We had a visit from Hikurangi residents Shona Hemara/Whitehead and Kuia Ani Hemara regarding the Meningococcal W vaccination programme. Shona set up Awhinatia nga Tamariki to help families within her Hikurangi community, that had children that were in the ineligible age bracket of 5-12yrs old, that were unable to afford to vaccinate and protect their children against Meningococcal W Disease. Her first priority was Hikurangi School and community. As there were remaining funds she has kindly offered the Meningococcal W vaccination free to children at Whananaki School.

Attached is an information sheet. If you would like your child/ children to have the Meningococcal W vaccination please fill in the consent form and return to school by Friday May 31st.
